Oxford Kites
Non-competitive, skills-focused, and open to everyone — disabled and able-bodied players alike.
We are Oxford Kites, Oxford University's wheelchair basketball team. We're non-competitive and focused on skills development, welcoming everyone regardless of experience with either wheelchairs or basketball — disabled and able-bodied players alike.
Wheelchair basketball plays by broadly the same rules as running basketball: five-a-side, same court, hoop, and size 7 ball, with adapted rules around travelling and contact. At a competitive level players are classified by ability to keep teams balanced, but at Oxford Kites you don't need to worry about that — just come and play. Sports wheelchairs are provided and fitted to you; British Wheelchair Basketball is the sport's UK governing body.
Taster sessions run in Week 0 and early Michaelmas — open to everyone, no experience needed. Your first 3 sessions are free.
